Topic Summary

The main goal of this committee is to solve the ongoing trade conflicts between the United States of America and the People’s Republic of China. The United States and China are the world’s biggest economies, China being the world's biggest exporter and the United States the world’s biggest importer. The trade conflict between both nations goes back to 1984 when both countries became vital trading partners and United States anti-Chinese pressure groups started to complain to the U.S Congress; the complaints were not enough to stop the trading boom between both nations, with imports of Chineese goods in the United States doubling from 1996 to 2001. In 2000, President Clinton signed the U.S-China Free Trade Agreement and argued that trade with China would really help the American economy.
