Lincoln MUN 2020 

Greetings,

​

    If there is something I believe is essential in our lives, it’s diversity. Experiencing diversity leads to a combination of different mindsets and ideals. And being surrounded by all these new ideas and beliefs can help give you a new perspective which you had never been aware of or had simply never considered before. But an important part of this is that you have to be open to change. Truly, we have to recognize that change is one of the most beautiful experiences a human can go through. It is thanks to this change that you manage to grow and become a better person. 

    We need to understand that having exposure to all these different people, mindsets, cultures and experiences will help us understand the world more holistically. Because people have the wonderful capability of learning and adjusting to all these new, and at times overwhelming, situations. And I’m not one to say that this is easy. Accepting that people are different is not something easy, and in fact, it may take you a very long time to truly comprehend someone else’s point of view. But I believe that if you persevere, it will be a truly enriching experience. And what is great is that you will never stop learning. This means that as time goes on, you will only become better at accepting and embracing the differences of those around you, and eventually, you might even celebrate them. 

       So when you're faced with a situation or a culture or a person that is unfamiliar to you, embrace it, because you never know how it might help change you, and by default, help change the world. Because there is strength in diversity; there is strength in combining a bunch of different ideas and seeing the world in a new perspective because of it. And that is what Model UN is truly about. It's about allowing for a safe space for dialogue between nations, people, organizations, companies, etc. that have different point of views. MUN is about listening and hearing what those around you are saying, and working with them—despite your differences—to reach a common goal. 

       Our generation is not the future, it is the present, and it's time we act accordingly. We need to have faith in ourselves, and in the fact that together, with all these merging cultures and beliefs, we will be able to make the world a better place. Because we are capable of changing the world. I believe in us. It's time you believed in us too.

  Si hay algo que creo que es esencial en nuestras vidas, es la diversidad.  Experimentar la diversidad conduce a una combinación de diferentes mentalidades e ideales, y estar rodeado de todas estas nuevas ideas y creencias puede ayudarlo a darle una nueva perspectiva que nunca antes había considerado.  Pero una parte importante de esto es que tienes que estar abierto al cambio. Seriamente, tenemos que reconocer que el cambio es una de las experiencias más hermosas por las que puede pasar un ser humano. Es gracias a este cambio que logras crecer y convertirte en una mejor persona.

  Debemos entender que tener exposición a todas estas personas, mentalidades, culturas y experiencias diferentes nos ayudará a entender el mundo de manera más integral, porque las personas tienen la maravillosa capacidad de aprender y adaptarse a todas estas situaciones nuevas y, a veces, abrumadoras.  Y no soy nadie para decir que esto es fácil.  Aceptar que las personas son diferentes no es algo fácil; de hecho, puede durar mucho tiempo realmente comprender el punto de vista de otra persona.  Pero creo que si perseveras, será una experiencia verdaderamente enriquecedora, y lo maravilloso es que nunca dejarás de aprender. Esto significa que a medida que pasa el tiempo, solo mejorarás en entender y abrazar las diferencias de los que te rodean, y eventualmente, incluso podrías celebrarlas.

     Entonces, cuando te enfrentas a una situación, cultura o persona que no te es familiar, acéptala, porque nunca sabes cuales cambios podra traer, en ti o en el mundo. Hay fuerza en la diversidad - fuerza en combinar un montón de ideas diferentes y ver el mundo desde una nueva perspectiva. De eso se trata realmente el Modelo de las Naciones Unidas: de permitir un espacio seguro para el diálogo entre grupos de personas que tienen puntos de vista diferentes. MUN se trata de escuchar y entender lo que dicen los que te rodean y trabajar con ellos, a pesar de tus diferencias, para alcanzar un objetivo común.

     Nuestra generación no es el futuro, es el presente, y es hora de que actuemos de acuerdo con eso. Debemos tener fe en nosotros mismos, y en el hecho de que juntos, con todas estas culturas y creencias combinadas, podremos hacer del mundo un lugar mejor. Somos capaces de cambiar el mundo, y yo creo en nosotros.  Es hora de que creas en nosotros también.
